Astrolobe OS gives games, simulations, and standalone experiences a working computer environment with users, applications, windows, files, permissions, and persistent state—all operating through one shared platform.

The platform difference

More than a screen that looks like a computer.

Most in-game computers are built as scripted sequences.

A button opens a predetermined email. A folder reveals a specific file. A browser loads only the pages required by the story. These systems can be convincing, but they are usually built for one project and one exact set of interactions.

Astrolobe OS is designed differently.

Its applications share the same users, windows, files, permissions, taskbar, search, routing, and saved state. Instead of several disconnected interfaces pretending to be one computer, the platform provides one operating environment beneath them.

Why it exists

Why Astrolobe is building it.

Games, simulations, and interactive worlds increasingly rely on terminals, desktops, communications systems, investigative tools, and fictional networks.

Studios normally rebuild that infrastructure for every project.

Astrolobe is building the foundation once so future projects can focus on the applications, documents, communications, networks, and interactions that make their worlds unique.

The computer underneath them should not need to be reinvented every time.

Where the work lives

The difficult part is keeping the whole system consistent.

Drawing a desktop is straightforward. Making every part of it agree about what is true is not.

A file may belong to a specific user. An application may require permission to open it. Its window may already be running, minimized, hidden, or restored after a session change.

Signing out, restarting, closing an application, or recovering damaged state must not leave the desktop, taskbar, files, applications, and user session contradicting one another.

Astrolobe OS is built around that shared state and lifecycle work.

Astrolobe OS is in active development.

Core systems for identity, authentication, applications, windows, files, permissions, routing, persistence, and recovery are already implemented. Current work is expanding the application layer, strengthening integration between those systems, and preparing the platform for broader use.

Platform boundary: Astrolobe OS is not a replacement for Windows, Linux, or macOS. It is an in-engine operating platform designed for games, simulations, interactive worlds, and potentially standalone software.
Where it is going

A reusable foundation for many possible worlds.

The goal is a reusable platform Astrolobe can use across its own products and, over time, make available to studios that need a convincing computer environment without rebuilding one from the ground up.
